My name is David Richardson and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with over 12 years of experience. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychological Science from Ball State University in 2009 and continued on to attain a dual Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health and Social Psychology, also at Ball State University, in 2012.
I began my work as an Intern at Community Fairbanks Recovery Center, working with adult men and women struggling with chemical addictions, in both in-patient and out-patient care. After my internship was completed and I graduated, I continued to work with out-patient programs for a time.
In September of 2013 I was hired and began work as a therapist at Pendleton Correctional Facility, a men’s maximum-security prison. There I was able to work with patients struggling with nearly every mental health concern, including personality disorders. After eight years I made a change to working with an online teletherapy platform, continuing to work with diverse populations, struggling with a wide variety of concerns. I work from a framework of Person-Centered approach, utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I have experience working with clients dealing with Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Sexual dysfunction, ADHD, Addictions, personality disorders, body image problems, and grief and loss. I am also particularly interested in working with the LGBTQIA+ community as well as any other groups who feel as though they are not properly supported or represented. When I am not working, I enjoy watching movies, planning and building Halloween decorations, playing every sort of table-top game, and spending time with my best friend and wife of 25 years.
